Online wine course options

Online wine learning

We offer two different styles of online courses, synchronous and asynchronous. That is courses which follow a set schedule with real-time videoconferencing interaction, and courses with no set time and offline messaging interaction with the tutor. Both teaching styles are incredibly effective. Choosing one or the other is very much a question of personal preference, often based on time constraints.

Videoconferencing courses

These are classroom courses shifted to an online setting. Each course follows a fixed schedule. Tutor and students all meet at set times through an advanced videoconferencing platform and interact much the same way as they would during an in-person class. You can ask questions and chat with your classmates. Importantly, you get to taste wines together and discuss your tasting notes with the tutor in real-time - again, just like you would during a traditional classroom course. Synchronous tasting is made possible by our exclusive MignonVino system: all samples are delivered at your doorstep in 50 ml bottles, and you will pour and taste each wine as instructed by the educator. Click here to read more about the MignonVino technology. Once more just like classroom courses, the interaction time always needs to be complemented by personal textbook study time.

Asynchronous courses

These are delivered through an e-learning platform. Each course has start and end dates, but no fixed times. You can log-in any time of day or night. Because of this freedom, they are easiest to fit into a busy work schedule, and they have been very popular for years. Inside the portal, you will find resources to complement textbook study: documents, videos, quizzes and a messaging platform to interact with other students around the world. Also, through messaging, the tutor guides you in your study by giving assignments and suggestions, as well as reviewing tasting notes. Tasting, however is individual. Traditionally, you get recommendations for the styles of wines to buy and you taste them by yourself. You can then upload your notes and get feedback from fellow students as well as from the educator. As an optional add-on, AccademiaVino students can purchase a MignonVino tasting kit to get the complete range of recommended tasting samples for a fraction of the cost of purchasing full bottles.
